The medical assistants' job in the world of health and medicine is very important. The medical assistant ensures that they are available during any medical situation like a surgery or any other treatment, and ensure that the instruments and other resources to carry out the surgery in a positive manner are available whenever they are wanted.
Education
Normally, there is no prior experience or education required for one to have dental assistant jobs. However, recently there have been some courses that help in learning the basic science of dentistry. They basically learn their job on the go and may not have any prior experience of dentistry.
Some assistants get their training from the programs that are offered by junior colleges, technical institutes, and even some trade schools. Other than these aspects, the assistant should be reliable and should work well with others. Assistants should also have a calming attitude, as the patients that come into the dentist's office would mostly be nervous and tensed. Responsibility Areas
As an assistant to a dentist, a person has several key responsibility areas. These responsibilities depend on the type of assistant that the dentist is. If a person is an assistant in the laboratory, he or she would have a different set of responsibilities, while the assistant to a dentist in the office will have a different of responsibility areas.
Sometimes, the assistant may also have to assist the dentist in some specialized duties, and therefore would have to be trained to carry out these duties. For example, a person looking for dental assistant jobs may have to undergo a radiology course and examination by the Radiation Health and Safety examination. This course is offered by the Dental Assisting National Board.
Normal Work Day
The normal work day of an assistant who delivers patient care is to find out the case history of the dental patient by taking their reports and making them comfortable in the dentist's chair. Once the sessions starts, the assistant would have to hand instruments and objects to the dentist. The assistant would also have to see to it that the patient's mouth is dry and clear. This can be done by using devices like the suction.
Another important aspect of an assistant's work is the disinfection and sterilization of the medical equipment used by the dentist. This may also include setting up a tray for the various dental procedures.
Once the session ends, the assistant would also have to inform the patient about any post operative procedures and care that the patient would have to take from their side.
Future
An assistant to a dentist has a good future in the world of dentistry. Some can become dental assistant instructors in organizations and institutions. Some can even become dental product sales representatives, and some can also become office managers in a hospital or a dentist's office. Studies say that the dental assistant jobs are the third fastest growing occupation for which a degree is not needed.
